Alamo Village movie set, Near Brackettville, Texas was built on the ranch of James T. Shahan and is worth the drive and the ten dollar per person admission fee if you are into taking pictures of the "old west" like I am. That shady looking character in the photo isn't an actor, it's my husband.

Palace Station

Palace Station was once a stage stop which was halfway between Prescott and the Peck Mine. It is seventeen miles south of Prescott on Senator Highway. Built in 1874 as a two room house with a loft, it was enlarged in 1887 to the size it is today. The house has been owned by the US Forest Service since 1963 and is closed to the public.

Senator Highway was the route from Prescott to Phoenix in the late 1800's. Although it is still called a "Highway", be aware that this is a dirt road and usually requires a four wheel drive vehicle.

Yesterday morning I heard from the weather people that we had freezing fog. I wondered what that meant so I bundled up and went out into the cold and this is what found. Is that what freezing fog looks like? I don't know, but it was pretty.

These two pictures show one of the displays in the dining area of the museum house on Officers' Row. The displays are done by Sharlot Hall Museum.

The inside of the houses on Officers' Row at Fort Whipple boast several fireplaces. The top picture is of the fireplace in the dining room on the first floor.

This fireplace is in the parlor of the house that is now a museum.

Except for the trees, Officers Row at Fort Whipple looks much as it did when the postcard picture, at the top, was taken in the early 1900's. These beautiful homes were build to house the highest ranking officers and their families. One of the houses is now a museum with the history and artifacts on display, telling of the early days of the fort. The museum is well worth a visit. Tomorrow I will show the inside of the house that is now the museum.

There were many wonderful decorations for Halloween on Mount Vernon Street and it was hard to choose just one to post today. I picked this one because it had a "graveyard" with headstones of Prescott's famous ghosts. It also had sound effects.

Lots of fun going on in Dewey at the Mortimer Family Farms. You can take a hay ride out to the pumpkin patch and pick your own pumpkin. This weekend they are having a Halloween costume contest and live music. Should be fun.

Elk's Theatre Interior

In the old postcard picture above you can see the elegant interior of the Elk's Theatre in 1905. Below is a picture of the interior after the restoration. They did an amazing job of bringing it back as closely as possible to the original. A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to attend a viewing of a movie showing the restoration and a tour of the theatre with dear friends.
