We visited The Shrine of St. Joseph in Yarnell on Friday. The fire went through there but the statues all survived but some of the trees were burned or scorched and the wood cross on this one had burned away leaving the statue. The Shrine was built in 1939. Several buildings at the shrine burned down completely.

I really expected that these statues would be black with ash and soot. I'm surprised at how white they are. It's too bad that the office and gift shop burned down completely.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite amazing; I cannot imagine how the statue survived in the midst of the devastation.
ReplyDeleteThe horizontal board of he cross seems to be missing.
ReplyDeleteI am not religious but I enjoyed that shrine when I visited it years ago. Sad to see the losses to it.
ReplyDeleteFire is so destructive! The statue doesn't look any worse for wear, though.
ReplyDeleteI thought you'd like the Equine Intrusion! :)
I can't believe the fire missed it.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a sad reminder of that devastating fire. Hopefully this beautiful monument will be able to be rebuilt.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad...
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that the statue survived. I'm sure some people are already calling it miraculous.
