Founder

The Henry Wickenburg sculpture, by artist Clyde Ross Morgan, is at the Wickenburg town hall.
Henry Wickenburg was a gold miner who discovered the Vulture Mine and founding father of the town that was named for him. Over $30 million in gold has been dug from the ground at the Vulture Mine.

    The Vulture Mine is a big reason for the growth of Phoenix. The Valley grew as a place for farming in the old native American canals in order to raise food to feed the miners.

    A town founded by a miner! How interesting. The rock used as a pedestal is wonderful.

    I remember driving through Wickenburg a number of times, but can't remember anything about it except it was outside of Phoenix. Wonder why the mine was name the Vulture Mine. Probably 'cause there a lot of vultures in the area. Hmmm.
