Fifteen hardy people jumped into the freezing water yesterday at the Prescott Valley swimming pool for the annual Polar Bear Splash. That's snow behind them. It was about 34 degrees Fahrenheit outside. (1.1C) The water temperature was 33F.
Gasps could be heard from the swimmers when they jumped in.
This guy had his own camera strapped on.
Meanwhile, kids had some fun with this big snowball slingshot.

Fun to watch. Me participating is out of the question. :)
ReplyDeleteDoes it count if you do it in a swimming-pool? Over here they do it in the ocean.
ReplyDeleteThose GoPro cameras are great for underwater photos!

That's definitely cold - any colder and there would be floating ice!
ReplyDeleteYou have really crazy people up there, too. I will not go into the ocean or a pool or a lake if the water isn't at least 82 degrees. What's wrong with these people? :)
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, this craziness goes on in Canada too...even though fire departments have to chop holes in the ice for the "Polar Bears."
ReplyDeleteIt just goes to prove that crazy people exist all over the world.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine the shock of hitting that water. For that matter, you were pretty grave to just go and be a spectator! It's in the high 30s here and I'm freezing!
ReplyDeleteIt's done here too. They break open a section of ice on the Ottawa River and have it done there. I know in southern Ontario where I grew up, it generally is held on beaches at Lake Ontario.
ReplyDeleteBrave bears.
ReplyDeleteMissing Prescott, even in the snow! Here in SE Wisconsin, they do the Polar Bear plunge in icy Lake Michigan. Fortunately it was a balmy day in the teens. Tonight, it's 6 below!
