All ready for Halloween.  Well, it scared me, any way.

I saw this moving across the sidewalk and thought it was a big spider but it was just some ants working together to move a treasure that they found. I'm not sure what the treasure was.

My husband was sitting on the back patio when he heard something that sounded like a radio controlled aircraft but then saw a huge dark mass come over the fence. The bee swarm landed in our blue spruce tree and stayed for a few hours. Needless to say, I used a telephoto lens to get this quick shot and then went inside.

I picked this photo for two reasons. 

1. I love these Tiger swallowtails 

2. I was too busy to go through all of the years photos.

Bees

A whole hive of bees found my hummingbird feeder! 

They wont let the birds drink but they act like they have had one too many.

He is in over his head....

I saw this little butterfly floating in the crystal clear water of a lake. I saw it struggling when  I took this picture so I got a stick and fished it out and laid it on a log to dry out so that it could fly another day.

The Tiger Swallowtail butterflies are visiting the butterfly bush blooms in our backyard. 

Tarantula Hawk

A tarantula hawk is a kind of wasp that hunts tarantulas for food for their larvae. These were feeding on weed flowers which I think are pretty even if they are weeds.  The female wasp stings and paralyzes the tarantula and drags it to a nest where she lays one egg on the abdomen of the tarantula. When the egg hatches the wasp larvae enters the spider's abdomen and feeds on the live tarantula avoiding the vital organs to keep the spider alive as long as possible. Yes, these are the things that nightmares are made of.

The Last Butterfly

Our temperatures have gotten well below freezing at night already but the days are still warm enough to see these tiny little butterflies searching for late blooming wildflowers.
