Lawmen
What photographer could pass up a scene like this one at the European car show last weekend. These two 'lawmen' were having a little rest in the shade when I passed by.
And speaking of the photographer, she has shown up in the picture too, if you look close.

Troupe Salamat
This talented troupe of belly dancers drew a huge crowd at the courthouse on Saturday. An improvisational Tribal belly dance troupe, wowed the crowd with their graceful and fluid moves and beautiful costumes.
While looking at the fancy cars parked by the courthouse we were lured in by the exotic music and found this lovely scene.
A close up of Azra, one of the dancers.
Check out their web page HERE.

European Car Show
When the weather starts to warm up, fun things start to happen in Prescott. This car club stopped in town on their way to Flagstaff.

Kidzaam
It's the wacky dentistry office. Now what kid wouldn't love to go in that door.
And since today is "Poem In Your Pocket Day"...
Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time.
Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.
--Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Wednesday Window....Wacky
I have shown this building before but not for awhile. It got fresh paint not long ago so I thought I would show it again. I'll show the whole building tomorrow.

Wood Carving
Instead of using beams, this shop in Williams uses wood carvings to support the porch.
In the small picture you can see the nice old rock building.
This building was once a car dealership back in the 1950's.

Elvis
I'm pretty sure I saw this same statue in Jerome but this one is outside a restaurant in Williams. I like the black and white trim against the red brick building.

Sultana Theatre
Another view of the the building in Williams that I posted yesterday. This is the entrance to the old theater where they showed silent movies until 1930 when the first "talkie" in Northern Arizona was shown here.
There's a bear in there!

Sultana
I am sure I don't have to tell you about this place, since it is world famous. Just in case you haven't heard of it, I will tell you that in this 100 year old building was once the social center of Williams. It housed a saloon, billiard hall, and silent movie theater. The Sultana bar is said to have the longest operating liquor licence in the state of Arizona. Still a local favorite, the bar has live music on weekends.

Hot Rod
I like this sign for "Cruisers Cafe 66". We have eaten here before and found it to be a fun place with good food and friendly service. The barbecue grill is out front and if the music and red hot rod doesn't draw you in, the aroma will.

Red Garter
Williams, Arizona
This place was closed when I was here. I want to go inside and take a look around so I will have to go back. It appears to be a Bed and Breakfast, a bakery and a gift store and ......I'm not sure what else. The sign is at the back of the building showing the way to a rear entrance. When I go back I'll let you know what I find inside.

Theme Day.....Pedestrians Crossing
It's the first of the month again and that means it's Theme Day. This crosswalk is perfect for the theme as it has a history to it. Back in 1986 the Prescott City Council decided to eliminate this crosswalk, which is in the middle of the block. This crosswalk connects the courthouse with the shops and bars across the street in the area known as Whiskey Row. After public outcry about the removal of the crosswalk, Sam Steiger, a local politician, once an Arizona Senator, decided to take matters into his own hands. One night he took a can of paint and a paint brush and painted the crosswalk back on the street. Steiger was arrested but was acquitted by a jury after deliberating only 25 minutes. He argued that "it wasn't criminal damage, it was historic preservation". The crosswalk was reestablished and is in use today. Sam Steiger was elected Mayor of Prescott in 1999 and served one term. He passed away September 26, 2012 at the age of 83.
