Bearizona....Bears

The bears at Bearizona were having their mid day nap when we drove through. They were quite close to the road and looked like they were well cared for and happy.

They have dens to go into and trees to climb and logs to explore.

This one was using some logs for a pillow and for scratching his head.
The road takes you right through their area and they could walk right up to your car if they wanted to. We were there at mid day which is a sleepy time for bears so they weren't interested in us.

Driving To Alaska....On The Way To Anchorage

Just north of Homer, we stopped at a State Park where there was a family of eagles teaching their young about fishing.

They put on quite a show grabbing fish from each other while flying high above us. I guess they are encouraged to play with their food.

This little Russian Orthodox church is in Kenai, Alaska close to the Cook Inlet.

Driving To Alaska...Homer

This weekend I have a few more pictures from the town of Homer. It was cold and cloudy all the days we were there but fishing boats went out every day.

The Salty Dawg Saloon was a log cabin lighthouse combo. Kind of unusual.

Lots of signs posted all the rules of the boat harbor at the end of the boardwalk.

Traveling Roadside Petting Zoo

It isn't every day that I see a camel in a parking lot in Prescott Valley so when I spotted this one from the highway, I had to pull in and get an up close look. This one was giving rides for $7 a ride.

He has funny feet.

There were other animals in the tent but I didn't go in.

Driving To Alaska....Homer

I liked the little town of Homer, Alaska. It was a quiet fishing town.

Businesses along the water's edge were built on stilts.

We saw a young moose grazing in someone's yard.

The marina had too many boats to count.

This one was my favorite.

And this is the hospital where we found out that the sprained ankle that Chet had been walking on for over a week was actually a broken ankle.

Driving To Alaska....Seward

Continuing our trip to Alaska...We spent Memorial Day weekend camping on the beach in Seward, Alaska watching boats of all kinds and sizes sailing by.

The Coast Guard came by.

Pretty little sailboats quietly floated past us.

Then we saw these young girls having a fast dip in the freezing water. They didn't stay in very long.

Jerome's Grand Hotel

This building was once the hospital in Jerome but has a new life as a popular hotel sitting on the side of the mountain over looking the town.  It is rumored that the building is haunted.

I haven't noticed anything too unusual.

Driving To Alaska....The Border

This weekend we return to the trip to Alaska and after some of the worst road we have seen on this trip we finally come to the international border station between Canada and Alaska on the Alaska Highway.

We headed south to Prince William Sound and Valdez, Alaska.

The picture below is at the docks in Valdez.

We spent a couple of days exploring Valdez.
It has an interesting museum and a busy marina.

Round-About

These traffic circles are popping up everywhere. This one just south of Chino Valley has some horse sculptures in the middle.  I hope that doesn't distract the drivers. I don't like the round-abouts much.

Clarkdale Houses

There is a section of Clarkdale that has rows of these cute houses that I have always liked. I don't know what the name of this style of architecture is but I always called them the salt block houses because they were all white and square. Most of them have been painted other colors now.

A way to get some attention for this used car business is this red airplane up on the roof.

Driving To Alaska....The Train

The White Pass & Yukon Railroad Skagway, Alaska

We didn't ride the train but I think it would be a wonderful trip.

There were three huge cruise ships docked in Skagway when we were there so the town was busy and full of tourists.

I found this rock wall full of graffiti
at the dock and thought it was interesting.
On the back of that big skull is written,
"Soapy Smith's Skull".

The front of this building was
decorated with driftwood.
