I have been here for longer than you can remember......
You may have been one of the many children who have climbed up my limbs ......
Countless birds have been born in the nests that decorate my branches...
My bark is gnarled and scarred....
I have survived floods and drought, cold and heat.....
I am old...I am beautiful....
Come...shelter in the coolness of my shade.
This is the old cottonwood tree on the ball field at Prescott Mile High Middle School which used to be the High school.

This tree is magnificent.
There is something elegant and stately about an old tree like this! Did you read about the woman who burned down a 1500 year old tree here in Florida? She was smoking inside a hollow part of it!
She was smoking meth. Here's a link to the story:

It is a magnificient cottonwood. Now I'll have to read Lowell's link.
It's a very wise tree!
