This weekend we return to the trip to Alaska and after some of the worst road we have seen on this trip we finally come to the international border station between Canada and Alaska on the Alaska Highway.
We headed south to Prince William Sound and Valdez, Alaska.
The picture below is at the docks in Valdez.
We spent a couple of days exploring Valdez.
It has an interesting museum and a busy marina.

Is this the area where the Exxon Valdez had the giant oil spill many years ago? I hope everything is fully recovered.
Why a border station? Alaska isn't a foreign country. I remember years ago that some of the western states (Arizona, I believe) had border stations where they would confiscate fruit, etc., before you could enter.

At first I thought that boat said "Southern Girl" which didn't quite make sense but now I see it says "Northern Girl". Gorgeous eagle.

Thanks for the info. Ain't bureaucracies wonderful? Some years back Lois and I were traveling along the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota with Lois' parents and we decided to cross the border just for the heck of it.
Oh, boy! That also took forever. Finally, we said we'll just go turn around and head back where we came from. It still took forever! :)
So many stories behind these totem poles. I wonder what this one says.
