Del Rio Springs #3

This old barn has been here for many years. It was there 56 years ago when my husband worked on that ranch. At that time the Santa Fe Railroad owned the ranch and Grand Canyon's Fred Harvey leased the ranch from them to raise cattle for his “Harvey Houses” and the Grand Canyon mules were wintered there.

There is a lot of history here. I'm impressed by the size of that barn and the years it has served its purpose.

Interesting about the Fred Harvey Company wintering their Grand Canyon Mules there. I bet in the old days there would have been a lot more people interested in knowing where Fred Harvey wintered the "Harvey Girls." There was a saying that "Fred Harvey supplied the West with food, and wives.

How very interesting. And rather amazing that the old barn is still there. Is this the same Fred Harvey whose name graces Turnpike stops in Illinois, I wonder?

Methinks I'd better do some research!

Beautiful shot!

Didn't the Santa Fe own Del Rio for the water for its trains?

Jacob, I don't know if the Fred Harvey in Illinois was the same one but I would guess that it is.

Granny J, The Santa Fe did use water at the Del Rio for the trains. Also the water for the Grand Canyon, Williams and Ash Fork was hauled on the trains from there. There was a train that did nothing but haul water. Fred Harvey had a 99 year lease with the railroad.

That looks so peaceful and laid back. I don't much Prescott history. This was interesting.
