Standing On The Corner In Winslow Arizona

This corner in Winslow, Arizona on Route 66 is set up to commemorate the song from the 1970's, by the Eagles, "Take It Easy", in which Winslow is mentioned. It's a pretty popular place with lots of people taking pictures. The whole scene on the wall is a painted mural. I think the addition of the flatbed Ford parked on the street is great, as is the bronze statue.

This is so great. It's amazing how the words of a popular song have inspired a popular tourist attraction. It makes me wonder if Jackson Brown or Glenn Frey had ever actually been to Winslow Arizona before the song was written. You are so right, the flatbed Ford is a touch of genius.

I guess my comment yesterday was a day ahead of its time.

I should have taken it easy.

This is such a fun little memorial. When I went through Winslow last year there was construction all around with the streets torn up and barricades everywhere. I drove around back and forth through the mess looking for a proper place to park so I could walk back and take a quick photo but finally gave up and returned to my travel schedule to get me back to Texas. Another day, another trip - hopefully!

Just to answer Sharon's question, Jackson Brown was in Winslow, Arizona. His car broke down there and that is where the inspiration for the song came from. Glenn Frey only wrote one line of the song. That was, "It's a girl my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowin' down to take a look at me." The rest of it was all Jackson Brown.

I love Winslow, Az. We stayed a couple of times at the Posada. It was so much fun and believe it or not at night you don't hear the trains...
