Brighty Of The Grand Canyon

You can see this adorable life size bronze sculpture in the lodge at the North Rim of The Grand Canyon.
Brighty was made famous by the 1953 children's novel by author Marguerite Henry which was a work of fiction based on a real life burro who lived in the Canyon between about 1892 to 1922.

That is a really cute sculpture - looks so innocent. Have you ever known a burro to be "innocent"? I didn't think so - they're rascals! :-)

Not many people get to the North Rim. I guess that is a good thing for those who do.

I don't remember seeing this sculpture but, it's been a very long time since I was at the north rim.

I remember his story.

It's been a few decades since I've been to the North Rim, too. But I'm not sure a burro would ever sit down on his backside like that.

I love children's books; I wonder if its still in print. Doubt it but I'm going to go on a search right now!

PS. The internet claims it is still in print and Barnes and Noble has a copy. Amazon also has a video. Later today I'll check B&N to see if they have copies.
