Oatman

We took a little drive to the far north western corner of Arizona exploring a section of the old route 66. After many miles of curves and dips we came to the little town of Oatman, Arizona.

Very much a tourist town, the many burros that wander around the town are a major attraction. Many of the shops sell small bags of food to feed them which is probably why they hang around the town all day.
Oatman is an interesting place and a bit strange so of course I took over 200 pictures. That means I will be posting more over the next few weeks.

The plaque below explains about the town and it's burros.

A city full of asses is quite an attraction! Looks sort of like an old movie set. I'd love it!

I have never been there. Julie and I need to take a weekend to go photograph along old Route 66.

Wow I didn't realise it was still outback territory

Now that I like!

Of course, how wild are they really, coming into town and getting fed by tourists?

What an interesting little town. I had to laugh when you said you took 200 photos. Sounds like some other avid photographers I know. Looking forward to seeing more of this town.

Oatman looks like a photographer's paradise. Yep, I bet the burros enjoy the handouts for sure!

Burros were important in many areas of Southwest history. Santa Fe has a statue in downtown and a short street called Burro Alley, honoring the animals that labored there in the past.

Tourist feed the animals but who cleans up after them?
