Desperadoes
I spotted these desperadoes hitching a ride on the last car of the Grand Canyon Train coming back into town one evening. They look like they might be up to no good.

Torch Lily
Also known as 'Red Hot Poker', the scientific name of this plant is 'Kniphofia Uvaria'. The flowers bloom on top of 3 to 5 foot stems. Being a very hardy plant, in some areas, this plant has become invasive and is considered a weed.
Every time I see these flowers I think of those little orange and yellow Halloween candies.

Baby Mockingbird
This young mockingbird may have left the nest too soon. It couldn't fly yet and was taking cover under a shrub. The parents were watching over it and feeding it on the ground. I hope it survives to grow up and sing.

The Shrine Of St. Joseph Of The Mountains
We visited The Shrine of St. Joseph in Yarnell on Friday. The fire went through there but the statues all survived but some of the trees were burned or scorched and the wood cross on this one had burned away leaving the statue. The Shrine was built in 1939. Several buildings at the shrine burned down completely.

Dressed For The Train
These cute kids and their parents were rushing to board the train to the Grand Canyon but were nice enough to stop for a moment to pose for me before getting on the train. They were sure dressed for the occasion.

Firefighters Memorial Sculpture
I was able to get closer to the sculpture the day after the memorial service.
There were still a few people coming to take pictures and talk to the firefighters who were there helping with taking down and cleaning up after the service.
I have heard that the sculpture will be relocated to fire station 7 in Prescott.
This group of firefighters from Flagstaff were busy cleaning around
the outside of the building but stopped long enough to pose for a picture.

Sculpture Close Ups
I went back and got some close up shots of the sculpture that I posted yesterday. This one shows the shovel and the decapitated rattlesnake.
This is the snake head, on the ground by the hem of her skirt.
I do have to say, I am not as brave as this woman. On the rare occasions that I have seen a rattlesnake, I have left them alone and moved out of striking distance as fast as possible.

New Prescott Valley Sculpture
The new sculpture at the Prescott Valley Town Hall called 'Not So Gentle Tamer' was installed this week. It depicts a a woman who has just beheaded a rattlesnake with her shovel. The artist is Bob Boze Bell and it was sculpted by Deb Gessner. I will post a few more pictures of this sculpture in the near future.
This firefighter sculpture was placed outside the convention center in Prescott Valley for the memorial service yesterday for the 19 firefighters who perished in the Yarnell fire.
